Riding Lessons

Program Structure

Private or Semi-Private Lessons
Each lesson includes a mix of mounted and unmounted instruction and runs approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on the student’s skill level and the needs of the horse. Curriculum areas include:

Unmounted Horsemanship Skills

  • Safe horse handling and barn etiquette

  • Grooming, tacking, and equipment care

  • Leading, groundwork, and communication basics

  • Horse behavior and body language

  • Barn chores such as mucking, feeding, and watering (as appropriate)

Mounted Riding Skills

  • Balanced position at the walk and trot (and canter as appropriate)

  • Rein control, steering, and transitions

  • Use of aids and effective communication with the horse

  • Proper warm-up and cool-down routines

  • Introductory patterns, obstacles, and mounted exercises

Students learn both English and Western basics unless a specific discipline is requested.

  • Respect for animals and the barn environment

Our instructors teach at each student’s pace and prioritize safety, skill development, and a positive learning experience.

Program Goal

Eligibility & Attendance

  • Ages 6 and up

  • Lessons available on weekdays and select weekends

  • Students may register for recurring weekly lessons or single sessions

  • Consistent attendance is encouraged to support steady skill progression
     

Our riding program is designed to provide a well-rounded horsemanship education that supports physical development, emotional growth, and responsible animal stewardship. Through Step Up direct pay, families can access structured, high-quality instruction that builds confidence and competence both in the saddle and on the ground.


Safety & Requirements

  • ASTM/SEI-certified helmets are required (student-provided)

  • Boots with a heel are strongly recommended

  • All students and parents must sign AMP’s liability waiver before participating
