Equitation Club is a hands-on educational program for kids and teens who want to learn more than they would in a traditional weekly riding lesson.
 

Students participate in riding instruction, horse care, barn routines, and equine-focused learning while developing practical horsemanship skills, responsibility, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of horses.

Whether your child is meeting a horse for the very first time or already lives in boots and breeches, Equitation Club provides a welcoming, supportive environment where friendships are built, confidence grows, and every day brings something new to discover.

AMP Stables & Boarding is a Step Up for Students Marketplace Direct Provider for Equitation Club and Summer Equitation Club through PEP and UA scholarships. Eligible families may apply scholarship funds directly toward these programs.

Ages: Students ages 8 and up

Tuition: $75 per session

By completing registration, parents/guardians acknowledge that they have reviewed, understand, and agree to the applicable AMP Stables & Boarding and Equitation Club Policies.
 

What We Do Each Week

Equitation Club combines riding instruction, hands-on horsemanship, barn care, and educational activities in an engaging, supportive environment. Students learn by doing, gaining practical skills and a deeper understanding of the responsibility involved in caring for horses. Through shared activities and real barn experiences, they also strengthen communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Activities may include:
 

• Grooming and horse care

• Feeding and watering

• Tacking and untacking

• Cleaning stalls and paddocks

• Horse handling and safety

• Groundwork

• Basic barn management

• Riding instruction (weather and horse health permitting)

These hands-on experiences help students understand the daily commitment involved in caring for horses while building responsibility, confidence, and practical life skills.

Academic Connections

Horses provide a unique way to connect academic concepts with real-world experiences. Topics explored throughout the year may include:
 

• Science: Equine anatomy, nutrition, health, biology, and horticulture

• Mathematics: Measuring horses, estimating weight, calculating feed requirements, budgeting, and the financial responsibilities of horse ownership

• History: Horse breeds, the history of horsemanship, and the role of horses throughout civilization

• Language Arts: Reading, storytelling, journaling, discussion, and equine-themed literature

• Physical Education: Riding skills, balance, coordination, posture, and overall rider fitness

• Social Studies: Herd dynamics, equine communication, teamwork, leadership, and responsible stewardship

• Art & Creativity: Drawing, painting, photography, crafts, and horse-inspired creative projects

• Equine First Aid: Basic health care, emergency preparedness, and recognizing when a horse may need veterinary attention
   

Learning from Equine Professionals

Throughout the year, students also have opportunities to learn from veterinarians, farriers, trainers, and other equine professionals through demonstrations and guest presentations. These experiences expose students to the many careers within the equine industry while reinforcing the knowledge and skills they develop each week.
 

Whether students dream of owning a horse, competing, working in the equine industry, or simply spending meaningful time with horses, Equitation Club provides a well-rounded educational experience that inspires curiosity, encourages responsibility, and fosters a lifelong appreciation for horses and horsemanship.

Rain or Shine Learning

Equitation Club is an educational horsemanship program, not a riding-only program. While mounted instruction is an important part of the experience, learning continues when riding is not possible.
 

Riding activities may be modified, postponed, or canceled because of:

• Weather or arena conditions

• Horse health or availability

• Staffing or scheduling considerations

• Any other condition that may affect safety

When riding is not possible, students continue learning through horse care, groundwork, barn management, educational games, crafts, demonstrations, and other equine-focused activities.

Equitation Club operates year-round unless families are notified otherwise. If severe weather or another unsafe condition requires the entire program to be canceled, parents and guardians will be contacted as soon as possible.
 

What to Bring

Equitation Club is an active, hands-on program. Students should dress for the weather and expect their clothing and shoes to get dirty—a little barn dirt is part of the experience.
 

Required

• Closed-toe shoes at all times

• Long pants for mounted activities

• Refillable water bottle

• ASTM/SEI-certified horseback riding helmet for mounted activities

Students may bring their own properly fitted riding helmet. Loaner helmets are available at no additional cost.

Parents, guardians, siblings, guests, and visitors must also wear closed-toe shoes while on the property.

Recommended

• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty

• Sunscreen

• Insect repellent

Additional Information

Water breaks are provided throughout the morning.
 

Horse treats may only be brought or given with staff approval.

Students who are not dressed appropriately may be unable to participate in certain horse-handling or mounted activities.
 

Cancellation & Tuition Credit Policy

Tuition is non-refundable because enrollment is limited and staffing is scheduled in advance.
 

To receive a program credit, cancellations must be made by email or text at least 24 hours before the scheduled Equitation Club session.

Eligible credits:

• May be applied toward a future Equitation Club session

• Are valid for 90 days from the original program date

• Have no cash value and are not refundable

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice and no-shows are not eligible for a refund or program credit.

Through riding, horse care, and hands-on barn experiences, students develop responsibility, teamwork, practical life skills, and a lasting appreciation for horses and horsemanship.
